Accepts 48 69, 4869, 0x48 0x69, or \x48\x69. Each byte has at most two hex digits.

Formatting & export options Make the result fit your workflow

Formatting changes encoded output. Decoding accepts the input formats listed above. Compact output uses full-width bytes without prefixes.

Code points identify characters. The columns show the bytes used to store them.

Offsets start at 0. The table shows up to 120 code points; byte-report downloads include every byte. Combining marks and joined emoji can contain several code points.

A small detail that makes a big difference

C3 A9 is the UTF-8 byte sequence for é. A single E9 byte belongs to another encoding and is not valid UTF-8 on its own.

What is the Hex to Text Converter?

Hexadecimal uses digits 0–9 and letters A–F to write numbers in base 16. Two hex digits can represent one byte, from 00 through FF. When those bytes contain UTF-8 text, this converter turns them into readable characters: 48 69 becomes Hi, while 43 61 66 C3 A9 becomes Café. It also performs the reverse conversion, which is useful for building test fixtures and examining encoded log values. The tool reads a byte sequence, not a memory address or an arbitrary whole number. It checks the complete sequence before decoding so a malformed string cannot silently turn into a different message.

How to Use the Hex to Text Converter

1

Select Hex to text or Text to hex

Use UTF-8 for Unicode strings. Select ASCII only when the expected character codes are in the range 0–127.

2

Enter the string

Paste 48 69, compact 4869, 0x48 0x69, or byte escapes such as \x48\x69. A file picker is available for UTF-8 text files containing hex notation.

3

Format and export

Choose uppercase or lowercase letters, separators, byte prefixes, and row wrapping when encoding. Copy the result or export the text, raw bytes, or a CSV report.

Why Choose Our Hex to Text Converter?

Read common hex formats

Accept compact strings, space or comma separators, 0x prefixes, and complete \x byte escapes without manual cleanup.

Decode whole UTF-8 sequences

Multi-byte characters stay intact. C3 A9 becomes é instead of two unrelated characters.

Prepare a useful output

Adjust case, add prefixes, wrap byte rows, and export the representation your code or documentation needs.

Common Use Cases for Hex to Text Converter

Read a hex-encoded field copied from a log or debug console.
Create UTF-8 byte fixtures for accents, emoji, and multilingual strings.
Inspect whether an unexpected character came from the wrong encoding.
Compare hexadecimal, binary, decimal, and octal representations of the same text.

Frequently Asked Questions — Hex to Text Converter

Can I decode hex without spaces or with 0x prefixes?
Yes. 4869, 0x4869, and 0x48 0x69 all decode to Hi. A compact string must contain an even number of hex digits so each byte has two digits. Separated byte groups can contain one or two digits.
Does this tool support \x hexadecimal escapes?
Yes. A complete stream such as \x48\x69 is accepted. Every escaped byte must have exactly two hex digits. Incomplete escapes and mixed invalid characters produce an error rather than being stripped from the input.
Why does E9 fail while C3 A9 becomes é?
E9 on its own is not valid UTF-8. The character é is encoded as C3 A9 in UTF-8. A source that uses E9 may use a different encoding such as ISO-8859-1. This tool supports UTF-8 and strict ASCII; it does not guess legacy encodings.
Can hexadecimal images or encrypted data become text?
Not necessarily. Hex can represent any bytes, but only a valid character-encoding sequence becomes meaningful text. Images, compressed files, and encrypted bytes need the appropriate file decoder or decryption process.
Will my pasted hex be uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in this browser. It accepts up to 128 KiB of text bytes, or up to 2 MiB of hex notation producing no more than 128 KiB of decoded bytes. No account is needed.
