What is the NATO Phonetic Translator?

The International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet assigns a clear spoken word to each Latin letter: Alpha for A, Bravo for B, and so on. It helps people spell a name, booking code, serial number, or call sign when audio quality is poor or accents differ. This tool converts ordinary text into those words and reads a supported pasted sequence back to letters. Slashes represent spaces when decoding, and double slashes create a new line. It uses the standard spelling Juliett and X-ray, while accepting the common Juliett/Juliet and X-ray/Xray variations on input.

How to Use the NATO Phonetic Translator

1

Enter text or spelling words

Choose Text to NATO to spell a code clearly. Choose NATO to text when you have words such as Alpha Bravo Charlie.

2

Keep word breaks clear

The generated output uses / between original words. Paste / between words and // for a line break when decoding.

3

Verify before reading aloud

Use the reference grid for the official A–Z words. Unknown pasted words are flagged rather than silently turned into the wrong letter.
