Separate decimal codes with spaces, commas, or newlines. Strict ASCII accepts only 0–127.

Formatting & export options Make the result fit your workflow

Formatting changes encoded output. Decoding accepts the input formats listed above. Compact output uses full-width bytes without prefixes.

UNDERSTAND THE RESULT

Every character, explained.

Code points identify characters. The columns show the bytes used to store them.

Example: Hi!
Characters with their Unicode code point, byte offset, and binary, hex, decimal, and octal bytes
CharacterCode pointByte offsetHexBinaryDecimalOctal
HU+00480480100100072110

!U+00212210010000133041

Offsets start at 0. The table shows up to 120 code points; byte-report downloads include every byte. Combining marks and joined emoji can contain several code points.

A small detail that makes a big difference

ASCII has 128 codes. UTF-8 byte values above 127 are not extended ASCII; use the UTF-8 setting to decode them.

What is the ASCII to Text Converter?

ASCII assigns 128 numeric codes to English letters, digits, punctuation, and control characters. Uppercase A is 65, lowercase a is 97, and a space is 32. This converter reads separated decimal codes, such as 72 105 33, and returns Hi! It also shows the codes behind text you type. Strict ASCII is selected by default so values above 127 are not mislabeled as ASCII. If your source contains decimal UTF-8 bytes, choose UTF-8 instead: 195 169 then decodes to é. The character inspector labels invisible values such as NUL, TAB, LF, and CR, making it useful for line-ending and data-import problems.

How to Use the ASCII to Text Converter

1

Choose text or decimal codes

Select Codes to text to decode, or Text to codes to inspect a string. ASCII accepts characters and codes in the range 0–127.

2

Separate each number

Paste decimal values separated by spaces, commas, semicolons, or newlines. A compact string such as 72105 is ambiguous; use 72 105 for Hi.

3

Inspect controls and export

Read the character table for named spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Switch to UTF-8 if needed, then copy the text or export decimal codes and a CSV byte report.

Why Choose Our ASCII to Text Converter?

ASCII means ASCII

Values above 127 require an explicit switch to UTF-8. The tool does not invent a universal extended ASCII encoding.

See invisible controls

Recognize NUL, TAB, LF, CR, SPACE, and DEL in the character table while preserving the original bytes.

Compare number formats

View each code as decimal, binary, hex, and octal, with byte offsets for debugging.

Common Use Cases for ASCII to Text Converter

Turn a list of decimal ASCII codes from an assignment into readable text.
Identify tabs, carriage returns, and line feeds in copied data.
Check whether an input is valid ASCII before passing it to an ASCII-only system.
Decode a decimal UTF-8 byte sequence by explicitly selecting the UTF-8 mode.

Frequently Asked Questions — ASCII to Text Converter

How do I convert 72 101 108 108 111 to text?
Select Codes to text and paste those space-separated numbers. Each decimal value maps to an ASCII character, producing Hello. You can use commas, semicolons, or newlines as separators too.
Why are ASCII values limited to 0–127?
Standard ASCII is a 7-bit character set with 128 codes. The phrase extended ASCII refers to several incompatible encodings, not one universal mapping. This converter uses strict ASCII or explicitly selected UTF-8 and does not guess a code page.
Why is my result blank when the codes are valid?
Control characters do not always have a visible glyph. For example, 9 is a tab, 10 is a line feed, and 0 is NUL. Check the character inspector to see their labels and values; the output preserves those characters.
How can I convert emoji or non-English characters?
Switch Character encoding to UTF-8. The numbers now represent UTF-8 bytes rather than ASCII codes. An emoji can need four numbers. For example, 240 159 152 128 decodes to 😀.
Can I save the character codes as a file?
Yes. Download .txt saves the current result. Formatting & export options also provides a raw .bin file and a CSV byte report. Processing runs locally with a 128 KiB text-byte limit.
