URL Encoding (Percent-Encoding) Explained

What is URL encoding? Learn why spaces become %20 and how to safely encode and decode query parameters online.

Why Do We Encode URLs?

URLs can only be sent over the Internet using the ASCII character set. If your URL contains spaces, emojis, or special reserved characters (like & or ?), they must be converted into a valid ASCII format. This is known as percent-encoding.

For example, a space becomes %20.

Use our URL Encoder/Decoder to instantly convert complex strings into web-safe URL parameters.
